LFC History

Liverpool FC was founded in 1892 enjoyed a fair amount of success prior to the 1960’s, winning 5 League titles but most of their success has been from the mid 1960’s when Bill Shankly and then Bob Paisley managed the club. Liverpool have won more European trophies than any other English team with 5 European Cups/Champions Leagues, 3 UEFA Cups and 3 UEFA Super Cups; they have also won 18 League titles, 7 FA Cups and 8 League Cups.

Their local rivals are Everton and this fixture holds the record for having the most players sent off. In 1994 Liverpool signed a Danish goalkeeper, Michael Stensgaard who injured himself trying to put up an ironing board and had to retire from the game. He left the Reds but reignited his career some years later; he only managed to play 36 more games before giving up completely.

Liverpool’s and arguably England’s most successful manager, Bob Paisley won an amazing 21 trophies in his 9 years at the club including three European Cups.

Premier League Titles

After being sold for £300 million to American John W Henry in 2010 Liverpool are now one of the richest clubs in the world, but they have not won a  Premier League title yet despite going close on a couple of occasions, notably in 2013-14 when the title slipped through their grasp with three games left. Brendan Rodgers spent £116 million bringing in 8 new players at the beginning of 2014-15 to cope with the loss of Luis Suarez (who left for Barcelona in a £75 million deal after the 2014 World Cup), and also the rigours of the Champions League.
