Madrid FC were founded in 1902 and didn’t become Real Madrid until 1920 when King Alfonso gave them the title ‘Real’ (which means Royal), and also gave them the Crown crest. From 1956 to 1965 Real were unbeaten at home – for an amazing 121 matches; they are the only Spanish club to win La Liga five successive seasons, a feat they managed twice. Madrid’s fiercest rivals are Barcelona & their biggest win against them came in the Copa del Rey in 1942/43, an 11-1 victory; local rivals Atletico lost to Real in last year’s Champions League final.
